TezosNode operators sue the US IRS again, requesting that stake rewards be treated as property rather than income
Golden Finance reported that TezosNode operator Josh Jarrett has filed another lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), requesting that stake rewards be treated as property rather than income. Jarrett previously filed a lawsuit in 2021 against the 2019 tax bill, but the case was dismissed in 2024 as 'meaningless'. In this lawsuit, Jarrett and his wife seek a tax refund on the 13,000 TezosTokens they received in 2020, and request that the court prohibit the IRS from treating stake rewards as income. Jarrett believes that taxation should occur when Tokens are sold, not when they are acquired. Organizations such as Coin Center support this lawsuit, arguing that current policies will inhibit participation in the Decentralization network.
