Legendary Trader GCR Pulled Down from the Pedestal: "God of Prediction" or "Insider Manipulator"?

It has been one year and three months since legendary trader GCR announced his retirement from social media, and his trading story is gradually fading from people's discussions. However, just last night, the revelations from anonymous KOL ilikeblocks (@beniduboss) brought GCR back into the spotlight, but this time the discussions surrounding this name are no longer about miraculous trading records, but rather some unsavory insider trading allegations.

Who is GCR? He is one of the most prominent traders during the 2021 bull market, publicly shorting DOGE at the peak in May 2021, and then publicly shorting SHIB and other metaverse tokens at the peak of the bull market in November 2021, and publicly shorting LUNA before its collapse in 2022 (he even had a $10 million bet with LUNA founder Do Kwon). Aside from his brilliant trading record, GCR also frequently shares his trading insights publicly, often dropping memorable quotes, and many of his experiences are still regarded by many as the "trading bible".

After the last bull market ended, GCR gradually reduced its frequency of voice on social media.

In April 2023, GCR stated on X that "if you have long-term confidence in BTC and ETH, it is better to hold rather than trade," and then disappeared for a long time.

On April 14, 2024, one year later, GCR published the last update on social media, encouraging everyone to hold steady on spot during the market crash at that time, not to give up, while also mentioning that GCR is “enjoying life after retiring from social media.”

Since then, apart from the brief theft incident of the X account, GCR gradually faded from people's view... until the revelation that emerged last night.

On July 6, ilikeblocks first posted a preview on X, stating that "a major announcement will be made tomorrow evening local time," but at that time, the post did not attract much attention.

On the evening of July 6, ilikeblocks officially started his revelations, the content directly points to "a certain account revered as a deity by the community" suspected of bribing the exchange's listing team, invading servers to steal information, and using private channels to plagiarize their ideas... The full content is as follows.

Legendary Trader GCR Pulled Down from the Altar: "God of Prediction" or "Insider Manipulator"?

I'm sorry, I really can't take it anymore.

If I care about interactive data, I can certainly write a long post to expose the following facts:

The account that you all worship as a deity has over 90% of its profits coming from illegal means:

  • Bribe the Binance listing team;
  • Infiltrating AWS servers to steal undisclosed information
  • Create private Discord channels to plagiarize others' ideas, or even use these ideas to cash in on your own "prophecies"
  • After suddenly disappearing, they again violated rules by publishing price predictions, despite their solemn promise not to do so. Perhaps this time it is indeed a "great opportunity," or maybe it is because their nine-digit long positions are facing liquidation......

I know you idiots will take it all in, but why not try to think independently next time? Consider it an experience of something new.

To be fair, they are indeed smart and play their cards well.

But every time we discuss the upright big shots who have never cut韭菜, you all always bring up that account, which really makes me sick.

If we're talking about harvesting leeks, they are qualified to enter the Hall of Fame.

I will probably regret deleting this after posting it.

Before that, I wish everyone a pleasant Sunday.

Although ilikeblocks did not initially specify who the account was, it can be seen from the multiple "image evidence" he posted later that the target of ilikeblocks's attacks was indeed GCR.

As shown in the above picture, ilikeblocks posted several suspected statements from GCR in the Discord channel (the authenticity remains questionable). The account suspected to be GCR in the picture claims to have "captured all the listing information from a major exchange without missing anything," and even claims that "this is printing money."

Unexpectedly, the revelations from ilikeblocks quickly caused a huge uproar within the community. Some believe that his so-called evidence is not credible and is baseless rumor-mongering, and that the most well-known short-selling cases by GCR clearly cannot rely solely on insider information about listing coins; however, others believe that "it is better to believe it exists than to believe it does not," otherwise, why is it that "I cannot do it, but he can."

It is worth mentioning that ilikeblocks claimed to have been attacked by unknown-source bots after the revelation, with its account gaining tens of thousands of followers in a matter of seconds, and a large number of new accounts posting obviously bot-generated spam comments (mostly in Chinese) under its posts.

Moreover, when faced with further questioning from many people, ilikeblocks stated: "I cannot disclose everything, otherwise it would expose my information sources."

As ilikeblocks refuses to disclose further information sources, and GCR, who has long withdrawn from social media, has not responded, the truth of the matter remains elusive. Is ilikeblocks trying to gain attention for traffic? Or does he really hold some unknown information? Before the situation further escalates, it's likely that no one except the parties involved knows the answer.
