The deputy director of the European and International Studies Center at the Higher School of Economics in Russia and an expert at the Valdai Club, Suslov, stated that Russian President Putin and U.S. President Trump may discuss arms control issues during their meeting in Alaska. Suslov pointed out: "The issue of arms control is likely to be discussed. Russia's recent suspension of the deployment of intermediate and short-range missiles is certainly not coincidental. Economic relations between Russia and the U.S. will also be mentioned." Suslov added: "The meeting held on Alaskan territory highlights the Arctic agenda. The Arctic is seen as one of the core areas of competition between Russia and the U.S., but it is also viewed as a region with cooperation potential, so Arctic issues will definitely be involved."
